How did the Polvere di Sogni collection come into being? It was a summer night, and inspiration, creativity and technology all combined to make a dream come true. The interview with Chiara Carli.

On August 10, you may look up into the starry sky and make a wish.
It’s one of our oldest and most evocative legends, and we all know the story of the shooting stars on the night of San Lorenzo, the brightest display of the summer. They are said to be the tears of San Lorenzo, and that if you look at them and make a wish, it is sure to come true.
These are actually the Perseids, a meteor shower that appears every summer in mid-August; they are easily visible to the naked eye, crossing the sky at the rate of about 100 every hour.

They’re a wonderful daydream, like the Polvere di Sogni collection that Chiara Carli describes as a wish come true: “One hot summer a few years back, I read a fantastic novel: ‘Stardust’ by Neil Gaiman. It’s an extraordinary story of magic and desires: I love reading, and this novel really caught my imagination. I especially liked the bit where the main character is up on the roof looking at the stars, and they sprinkle their magic dust to make wishes come true. This scene inspired me to create a collection that would transform a dream into beautiful jewellery.”

It was a tribute to nature and the universe, “which allow us to dream“, and the wish soon became a reality: “The challenge was to find the right blend of craftsmanship and technology to render the idea of star dust, while maintaining the brilliant, luxury style that typifies Pesavento jewellery“.
Chiara Carli, together with her partner Marino Pesavento and their team of collaborators, managed to develop a special technology to use in a new way in the jewellery industry: “It consisted of using nanotechnology to make special particles, choosing different natural products to create the colours and characteristics you have in mind, and cutting them into the form of perfect hexagons to increase the reflective effect. It is this form that gives them the particular brilliance I envisaged in my dreams.”

Unique creations are the result of great inspiration: the Polvere di Sogni collection was launched in 2011, and its hallmark is this wonderful powder which produces iridescent reflections on rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings, enhancing the silver forms with a play of light and creating infinite reflections. Or as Chiara Carli put it: “You feel a new sensation every time you look“.

Minimal style and clean, modern design, combined with the ingenious use of choice materials and typical Italian know-how: “Because it takes a blend of creativity, craftsmanship and advanced technology to create beauty. A combination of human expertise, natural genius and innovation can overcome great challenges. And turn dreams into beautiful, unique objects.”
